SUMMARY:Xmas Prime Stock Show and Sale
DESCRIPTION:Orkney Auction Mart’s Christmas Prime Stock Show & Sale was held today\, Friday 28th November. Well done to all who joined us and made today a great success. The entries this year were a great show of Primestock and sold very well. \n  \nForward for sale were 14 Prime Cattle and 45 Prime Lambs. After being kindly judged by Mr Andrew Mackay\, West Greenlands\, Caithness\, the prime stock was met with some enthusiastic bidding from the local butchers and many other interested parties. \n  \nPrime Steers averaged 395 p/kg & £2\,610 \nPrime Heifers averaged 547 p/kg & £3\,512 \n  \nShow results. \n  \nSupreme Cattle Champion\, Best Heifer\, and Best Haltered Heifer was awarded to lot 9. A Limousin scaling 645 kilos from first time winner Magnus Walker\, Copenageo\, Tankerness realising a new centre record prime price of £4\,100 to E Flett Butchers\, Stromness (635p). \n  \nReserve Champion was awarded to lot 7. A Limousin scaling 625 kilos from K D Eunson\, Braebuster\, Deerness which after a lot of keen and spirited bidding realised £3\,500 purchased by Donaldsons of Orkney (560p). \n  \nBest beast opposite sex to Champion\, Best Steer and Best Haltered Steer was awarded to lot 1. A British Blue scaling 680 kilos from Frazer Leslie\, Odinstone\, Shapinsay which went on to realise £2\,720 purchased by E Flett Butchers (400p). \n  \nUnhaltered Champion was lot 12. A British Blue Heifer scaling 575 kilos from Frazer Leslie\, Odinstone\, Shapinsay which created a lot of interest and sold for £2\,932 purchased by Donaldsons of Orkney (510p). \n  \nYoung Farmers Champion was lot number 14. A Limousin Steer scaling 825 kilos from Scott Slater\, St Clair\, Holm which realised £2846 and was purchased by Ross Bros Ltd \n  \nHeavy Haltered Steers \n1st Lot 1. These Beltex x Lambs scaling 50 kilos were shown by J S Baillie & Co\, Sebay\, Tankerness. These well fleshed Lambs created a lot of interest when sold and matched the top price of last year at £450 per head to Donaldsons of Orkney (900p). \n  \nReserve Champion Lambs was awarded to lot 25. A pair of Blue Texels scaling 57 kilos from Jo Sylvester\, Stenaquoy\, Eday. These heavy lambs were in high demand and realised £300 per head to E Flett Butchers (600p). \n  \nYoung Farmers Single Lambs were the largest class of the day with the Overall Champion lamb being lot 42. A 54 kilos Beltex from Josie Eunson\, Newbreck\, Tankerness which realised £300 purchased by E Flett Butchers. \n  \nBest Junior Exhibiter and Reserve Overall Single Lamb was awarded to lot 45. A 43 kilos Beltex from Evan Leslie\, Quoymorhouse\, Shapinsay which realised £190 to I Laird (441.9p). \n  \nBest Young Handler was awarded to Taylor Brown\, Biggings\, Stenness. \n  \nPair of Texel x Lambs \n1st Lot 16. DESCRIPTION:Forward for sale on Friday 28th November were 25 breeding sheep at the OSBA Pure Bred Female sale. \nTopping the sale was lot 70\, a Dutch Spotted gimmer called Grainpark Heidi\, from Ivan Scott’s Grainpark flock. A daughter of Mount Pleasant George\, and in lamb to Tardoes Hallmark\, she sold carrying twins for £1200 to Sam Sinclair’s Maesquoy flock in Harray. \nSecond top price of the day and topping the Blue Texels was the gimmer Drumpark Jasmine from Robbie Scott’s Drumpark flock. A daughter of the 9000gns Saltire Blues Ferocious and out of the hombred Drumpark Gretel. She sold carrying triplets to Tom Flett for £950 buying for his Leary flock in Birsay. \nTexels topped at £800 for lot 51 from Robbie Scott’s Drumpark flock. Being sired by Morwood Gladiator and in lamb to Cowal Hitchman\, she sold carrying a single to George and Raymond Brown buying for their Colligarth flock in Sanday. \nIn Lamb ewes Topped at £650 for a Dutch spotted\, lot 73 Grainpark Faith\, also from Ivans Grainpark flock. Being sired by Diamond Eminem. She sold carrying twins to Tiptop Highflyer to Lynn Ritch buying for her Vetquoy flock. \nEwe lambs Topped at £400 for lot 62 From Keith Hourstons Didcot flock. Being sired by Milnbank Hurricane she sold up to Shetland going to J R Burgess\, Lower House Hillwell. \n  \nAverages\, \nIn lamb ewes = £394 \nIn lamb Gimmers = £686 \nEmpty Ewe lambs = £293
