SUMMARY:OBBA Show and Sale of Bulls
DESCRIPTION:History was well and truly made in Orkney Auction Mart today with a tremendous show of Orkney bred Bulls making record breaking prices not once\, not twice\, but on eight separate occasions. A real credit to the Bull breeders for turning out such a high-quality show of stock\, and great to see the local farmers supporting the breeders on their own doorstep. The judging today was very ably carried out by Mr Colin Sinclair\, Ness\, Sandwick. \n  \nBreed Averages \nCharolais av 7\,766 gns \nSimmental av 11\,000 gns \nAberdeen Angus av 6\,000 gns \nLimousin av 7\,666 gns \nAged Bulls av 2\,875 gns \n  \nFirst in the judging ring was the British Blondes with Champion being awarded to lot 1 “Grutha Voldemort” bred by D D & J A Scott\, Grutha\, South Ronaldsay. This bull was unsold at the time of sale but found a new home after the sale. \n  \nNext in the judging ring was the Charolais breed with the overall champion being awarded to lot 5 “Baillieston Virgil” bred by W R Baillie\, Biggings\, Toab. This bull created a lot of interest when in the ring and soon smashed the Orkney Charolais record price achieving 10\,000 gns purchased by West Brough\, Sanday. (The previous record was 7\,500 gns). The reserve Champion Charolais was awarded to lot 3 “Dounby Vincent” bred by Spence\, Norton\, Dounby. This bull went on to realise 4\,800 gns to D P Nicolson\, Quoys\, South Ronaldsay. A special mention must go to Backakelday Farm\, Holm for achieving a 2nd top price of 8\,500 gns for lot 4 “Backakelday Vicount” purchased by D J & M Alan\, Durran Mains\, Castletown. \n  \nSENIOR CHAROLAIS \n1st Lot 3 “Dounby Vincent” from Spence\, Norton\, Dounby 4\,800 gns to Quoys\, South Ronaldsay. \n2nd Lot 2 “Dounby Unite” from Spence\, Norton\, Dounby              Unsold \n  \nINTERMEDIATE CHAROLAIS \n1st Lot 5 “Baillieston Virgil” from W R Baillie\, Biggings\, Toab 10\,000 gns to West Brough\, Sanday. \n2nd Lot 4 “Backakelday Viscount” from Backakleday\, Holm 8\,500 gns to Durran Mains\, Castletown. \n  \nJUNIOR CHAROLAIS \n1st Lot 29 “Baillieston Victor” from W R Baillie\, Biggings\, Toab  Unsold \n  \nNext in the ring was the highlight of the day which featured a tremendous entry of 5 Simmental Bulls. The previous record price for Simmentals was 6\,000 gns\, However this year we sold Simmentals for 13\,500gns\, 12\,000gns\, 10\,500gns\, 8\,000gns and 7\,500gns. These prices speak volumes about the quality of stock that was on offer. The Champion Simmental was awarded to lot 11 “Isbister Ron” bred by A T Rendall\, Old Hall\, Stromness. This Bull created a lot of brisk bidding and achieved a new record price of 10\,500 gns purchased by Vetquoy\, Dounby. This new record price resulted in the sale room bursting into the sound of applause\, but little did we know there would be two dearer Simmental Bulls to follow. The reserve Champion Simmental was awarded to lot 10 “Swannay Ringleader” from Ryan Morgan\, The Bungalow\, Swannay Farm which realised 7\,500 gns to A & A Muir\, Hermisgarth\, Sanday. A special mention must go to A T Rendall for producing two more record breakers with Lot 7 “Isbister Playboy” selling for 12\,000 gns to F & T Moar\, Withaquoy\, Holm and Lot 8 “Isbister Ricky” selling for the top price of 13\,500 gns to West Brough\, Sanday. \n  \nSENIOR SIMMENTALS \n1st Lot 8 “Isbister Ricky” from A T Rendall\, Old Hall\, Stromness 13\,500gns to West Brough\, Sanday. \n2nd Lot 7 “Isbister Playboy” from A T Rendall\, Old Hall\, Stromness 12\,000 gns to Withaquoy\, Holm. \n3rd Lot 9 “Isbister Robbo” from A T Rendall\, Old Hall\, Stromness 8\,000 gns to Charleston\, Papay. \n  \nINTERMEDIATE SIMMENTALS \n1st Lot 11 “Isbister Ron” from A T Rendall\, Old Hall\, Stromness 10\,500 gns to Vetquoy\, Dounby. \n2nd Lot 10 “Swannay Ringleader” from R Morgan\, Bungalow\, Swannay 7\,500 gns to Hermisgarth\, Sanday. \n  \nNext into the ring was the Aberdeen Angus Bulls with Champion being awarded to lot 15 “Burnside Braveheart” from P M Harcus\, Messigate\, Tankerness. This Bull generated a lot of brisk bidding and sold for 6\,000 gns to W R & M G Eunson\, Steaquoy\, Shapinsay. Reserve Champion Aberdeen Angus was awarded to lot 12 “Burnside Epic” shown by P M Harcus\, Messigate\, Tankerness. This bull was unsold at the sale. \n  \nNext up was the Limousin breed with a strong entry of 3 Bulls forward. This Bull went on to break the Limousin record and sold for 9\,000 gns purchased by S M Twatt\, Lingro\, St Ola.
