CHRISTMAS PRIME STOCK SHOW & SALE

Orkney Auction Mart’s Christmas Prime Stock Show & Sale was held today, Friday 27th November. Well done to all who joined us and make today a great success. The entries this year were higher and a great show of Primestock sold very well.

Forward for sale were 19 Prime Cattle and 34 Prime Lambs. After being kindly judged by Darren Dearness & Ewan Donaldson from Donaldson of Orkney, the prime stock was met with some enthusiastic bidding from the local butchers and many other interested parties.

 

Prime Steers averaged 368 p/kg & £2155

Prime Heifers averaged 393 p/kg & £2267

 

Show Results.

Supreme Cattle Champion, Best Steer, and Best Haltered Steer was awarded to lot 6. A Limousin Scaling 590 kilos from J & R Stanger, South Seatter, Sandwick. This well fleshed animal created a lot of interest when being sold and realised a centre record price of £3,400 to the judge Donaldsons of Orkney (576p).

 

Reserve Champion, Best Beast Opposite Sex to Champion, Best Heifer, and Best Haltered Heifer was awarded to lot 10. A Limousin scaling 605 kilos from Spence, Norton, Dounby. This well fleshed attractive Heifer showed plenty of interest in the ring and sold to £2,900 purchased by Williamsons (479p).

 

Champion Unhaltered animal was awarded to lot 20. A Limousin Steer scaling 580 kilos from J & R Stanger, South Seatter, Sandwick which went on to achieve £2088 purchased by E Flett (360p).

 

Reserve Unhaltered animal was awarded to lot 17. A Limousin Heifer scaling 565 kilos shown by yarpha Farms, Orphir. This lightweight heifer went on to realise £2005 purchased by E Flett (355p).

 

Champion Young Farmers animal was lot number 22. A Limousin Heifer shown by Tommy Linklater, Stonelea, Stenness. She also created a lot of interest and managed to sell on for £1742 purchased by I Laird (342p).

Following the Cattle were a few large classes of Lambs.

 

Prime Lambs averaged 444 p/kg & £218 per head.

 

Overall Champion Pair of Prime Lambs was awarded to lot 26. These Texel x Lambs scaling 60 kilos shown by J S Baillie & Co, Sebay, Tankerness was also the 1st prized in Texel Cross Lamb section. These well fleshed Lambs created a lot of interest when sold and matched the previous record price to achieve £450 per head to the judge Donaldsons Butchers (900p).

 

Reserve Champion Pair of Prime Lambs was awarded to lot 40. These Blue Texels were also the 1st prized any other cross bred lambs scaling 58 kilos from F Leslie, Odinstone, Shapinsay. These lambs went on to realise £360 to Williamsons (620.7p)

 

Once again, this year our two biggest classes were the Young Farmers Single Lamb, and the Junior Exhibitor Single Lamb which was great to see. The future certainly looks bright in Orkneys show circuit.

 

Champion Individual Prime Lamb was awarded to lot 54. A Beltex Lamb scaling 45 kilos from Johnny Pirie, Purtabreck, Toab which was also the 1st prized Lamb in the Young Exhibitor section. This well presented Prime Lamb was keenly bid for and realised £300 to Donaldsons of Orkney(666.7p).

 

Reserve Champion Individual Lamb was presented to lot 43. A Beltex Lamb scaling 47 kilos from Tommy Linklater, Stonelea, Stenness. This lamb was also the 1st prized Lamb in the Young Farmer Section. This well bred Lamb went onto realise £190 to E Flett Bucthers (404.3p).

 

Best Young Handler was awarded to Freddie Brown, Biggings, Stenness.

Dutch Spotted Gimmers topped at £1800 for Lot 4 ‘Cleenagh Goldon Wonder’ from J M & L J Girvan, Mossclair, Tankerness purchased by Jolene Mackay, Nestings, Shetland for the ‘East Garth’ Flock.

 

Dutch Spotted Ewes topped at £1600 for lot 1 ‘Back Tor Fiona’ from J M & L J Girvan, Mossclair, Tankerness purchased by Maesquoy Farms, Harray for the ‘Maesquoy’ flock.

 

Dutch Spotted Ewe Lambs topped at £1500 for lot 11 ‘Mossclair Hoppy’ from J M & L J Girvan, Mossclair, Tankerness purchased by J S Baillie & Co, Sebay, Tankerness.
