CHRISTMAS PRIME STOCK SHOW & SALE Orkney Auction Mart’s Christmas Prime Stock Show & Sale was held today, Friday 25th November. Well done to all who joined us and make today a great success. There were more Cattle entries this year and a similar number of Lambs forward.Forward for sale were 12 Prime Cattle and 32 Prime Lambs. After being judged by Euan Hutcheson, and Mike Cruickshank from Kepak McIntosh Donald, Aberdeen, the prime stock was met with some enthusiastic bidding from the local butchers and many other interested parties.Prime steers averaged 272.8 p/kg and £1,691 per head.Prime heifers averaged 328.5 p/kg and £1,880 per head.The Supreme Champion in the cattle section, sponsored by Orkney Media Grouo, was a Limousin Heifer scaling 595 kilos from F Leslie, Odinstone, Shapinsay. She also won the Best Heifer prize. This Champion created a lot of brisk bidding and sold for £2,950 to the judges Kepak MacIntosh Donald (496p).Standing Reserve, sponsored by NorthLink Ferries, was a Limousin steer scaling 605 kilos from B Baillie, Sebayview, Tankerness. This animal also won the Best Steer prize, and the Best Beast Opposite Sex to Champion. He sold to E Flett Butchers realising £2,100 (347p).HALTERED STEERSSouth Seatter, Sandwick

He weighed 570 kilos and sold for £1539 purchased by Donaldsons Butchers (270p).The 1st prized Unhaltered Heifer was a Limousin scaling 580 kilos from Laga Farms, Evie. The young handlers with sheep have been the biggest class this last few years, so we thought it was only right to provide a cup for the best young handler. Today this was won by young Johnny Pirie, Purtabreck, Toab.
