Wednesday saw the OBBA Show and Sale of Breeding Bulls for 2025, with a sound entry forward attracting a lot of interest and selling to new record price averages for Charolais, Simmental and Limousin Bulls, and a new centre record price for Charolais, Simmental and Limousin Bulls. A credit to the Orkney Breeders for turning out such high-quality stock. The show was expertly judged by Mr Ingram Stout, Whitehall, Stronsay. A clearance rate of 88% was achieved.

First in the ring were the Charolais Bulls. Overall Champion Charolais was awarded to lot 4, “Baillieston Usher”, shown by W R Baillie, Biggings, Toab. This Bull created a lot of keen interest and sold for 7000 gns to Barrogill Mains, Thurso. Reserve Champion was awarded to lot 2, “Baillieston Thunder”, shown by W R Baillie, Biggings, Toab. This strong bull fetched a new centre record price of 7500 gns purchased by Hermisgarth, Sanday.

Next in the ring were the Simmental Bulls, with Champion being awarded to lot 9 “Swannay Niknak” shown by Ryan Morgan, Swannay Farm, By Evie. This well bred Bull created a lot of interest and sold to a breed record price of 6000gns purchased by Midhouse, Harray.
Next in the ring were the Aberdeen Angus Bulls with Champion being awarded to lot 11 “Baillieston Loaded” shown by W R Baillie, Biggings, Toab. This Bull went on to realise 5000gns to Orquil, St Ola. Reserve Champion Aberdeen Angus was lot 10 “Burnside Emojo” shown by P M Harcus, Messigate, Tankerness. This bull also sold for 5000gns to Seattersquoy, Stenness.

Next in the ring were the Limousin Bulls with Champion being awarded to Lot 13 “Dwarmo Umar” shown by M & R Cursiter, Arwick, Evie. This well bred Bull was very sought after and reached a breed record price of 6800gns to Cloke, Dounby. Reserve Champion was lot 14 “Dwarmo Umbro”shown by M & R Cursiter, Arwick, Evie. This bull went of to realise 3500gns to Weethick, Tankerness.
Finally in the judging ring was a new class of bulls ranging from 30-36 months old. Champion was awarded to lot 16 “Backakelday Tiktok”. A Limousin Bull shown by Backakelday Farm, Holm which created a lot of interest and eventually sold to 6000gns to Quoybond, South Ronaldsay. Reserve Champion in this age group was lot 8 “Backakelday Thorin”. A Charolais Bull bred by Backakelday Farm, Holm which wenbt on to realise 4500gns to Fea, St Ola.
